Folks,
Here's my contest report. I will not be in attendance at the meeting
tomorrow night.
We are roughly halfway through the contest season; we still have six
major club contests coming up (ARRL DX both modes, CQ 160 both modes,
and CQ WPX both modes) in addition to the numerous non-club contests
that are upcoming, such as NAQP (all modes), NA Sprint (all modes),
Russian DX, BARTG, etc.
Attached to this email is the map showing the redrawn club circle, with
the center located on the agreed-upon spot at the club's meeting place
on Scottsville Rd. We can place this on the website and update it as
needed.
More importantly, one of my jobs as contest coordinator is to determine
the eligibility of those who submit scores to the RDXA aggregate; in
simple terms, we have to make sure that anyone who submits a score on
behalf of RDXA is within the club circle, and a paid member in good
standing. If someone can e-mail me the latest club roster, I'll plot
everyone on the map and make sure we are all eligible; I imagine that we
are, but it is always god to make sure we are playing by the rules.
With the ARRL DX contests coming up, I'd like to have the BOD look at
two proposals, submitted to me by club members, that involve the club's
involvement in the contests.
One proposal called for us to engage in a friendly competition with our
neighbors to the east, the Hudson Valley Contesters and DXers. The
idea, simply, is to have a higher club score than the HVCDX group. Last
year, we were behind them by about 5.5 million points (26.7 million to
21.2 million points). To do this, we would need to seriously ramp up
participation from more club members. As a reminder, last year, W2FU
contributed 11.2 million (half!), 6W/WJ2O contributed 2.3 million, AI2N
contributed 1.1 million, and V31AM contributed 4.5 million...that adds
up to 19.1 million out of 21.2 million coming from just 4 operations.
That's something to think about this year, especially considering Redd,
Dave, and I will be contributing only one score from PZ instead of three
individual scores. Also, if W2FU is not a member (the last roster I
have doesn't list him as being one), and the majority of his ops aren't,
then we can't legally count scores from his M/M anymore...sorry to say,
but it is true, per the ARRL contest rules:
"8.5.2. At least 50% of the operators at a multi-operator station must
be eligible members of the club and the station must be located within
the defined club territory. The owner of the station does not need to be
a member of the club claiming the score".
I'll leave you guys to toss this one around.
The final thing, is that the Field Day results have been published for
some time now, and we were #3 in WNY overall, and #2 in 2A in WNY,
having about half the score of the #1 station in WNY in 2A. So, since
it is that time again, we should start having the discussion about Field
Day 2012.
Since we did the fun and relaxed version of FD last year, after years of
"serious, exclusionary contesting", I guess the theme this year is "What
Do We Want To Be When We Grow Up?".
Enjoy!
